Gig Profile: U.S. Soccer

Back in early September I was fortunate enough to work with the video team over at U.S. Soccer. I got an email from the U.S. Soccer Video Coordinator, who let me know that they were looking for a freelancer to shoot a game in Cary. Being a huge soccer fan, and looking for an excuse to get out and see the North Carolina Courage play, I was quick to agree.

The gig turned out to be a little bit different than I expected. I was anticipating shooting the full game from a broadcast angle. Instead, I found out that they were shooting a piece on Samantha Mewis, U.S. Women’s National Team midfielder and NC Courage star, for their webseries The Journey. The series follows the players in their buildup to the 2019 World Cup. I was familiar with the series, so I was sold.

The team ended up being a joy to work with. Their crew that was in Raleigh delivered equipment right to my door – a tripod, an FS7, lenses, cards, and a hard drive. They explained exactly what shots they were looking for, answered any questions I had, and gave me some tips on the pregame and postgame events. I got sideline press passes and had a ton of fun shooting. Plus the Courage won, which is always a nice bonus.

I only played a small role in the project, but when the video was released it was still exciting to watch. Take a look at the finished product!
